Festive Christmas Marinara Delight

1.Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

2.Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery to the pan. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened and the onion is translucent.

3.Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

4.Add the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the saucepan, stirring to combine.

5.Sprinkle in the dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Mix well to incorporate all the spices.

6.If using, pour in the red wine and bring the sauce to a simmer.

7.Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and the flavors meld together.

8.Towards the end of cooking, stir in the fresh parsley and fresh basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

9.Remove from heat and let the sauce cool slightly before serving.
