Quick & Easy Classic Cheese Toastie

1.Lay the four slices of bread on a clean surface. Spread a thin, even layer of softened butter on one side of each slice, ensuring coverage right to the edges.

2.Place two slices of bread, butter-side down, onto a clean plate or cutting board.

3.Layer two slices of cheese evenly over the unbuttered side of each of these two bread slices.

4.Top with the remaining two slices of bread, ensuring the buttered sides are facing outwards.

5.Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Low heat is crucial for melting the cheese before the bread burns.

6.Carefully place the assembled sandwiches onto the hot skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottom slice is golden brown and crisp.

7.Gently flip the sandwiches using a spatula. Press down lightly on the top of the sandwich to encourage even browning and cheese melting.

8.Cook the second side for another 3 to 4 minutes until it is golden brown and the cheese inside is completely melted and gooey. If the bread browns too quickly, reduce the heat.

9.Remove the toasties from the skillet, slice them diagonally, and serve immediately. Sprinkle with black pepper if desired.
