Baby Shark Cake

Preparation Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Cake In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Cake In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Cake Alternate adding the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

Cake Add a few drops of blue gel food coloring to the batter and stir until evenly colored.

Cake Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.

Cake Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Frosting Add a few drops of blue gel food coloring to the frosting and mix until evenly colored.

Frosting Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of blue frosting over the top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining blue frosting.

Decoration Press crushed graham crackers or crushed vanilla cookies around the bottom edge of the cake to create a sandy beach.

Decoration Roll out blue fondant and use a shark-shaped cookie cutter or template to cut out a shark shape. Place the fondant shark on top of the cake.

Decoration Roll out white fondant and cut out shark fin shapes. Attach the fins to the sides of the fondant shark on the cake.

Decoration Sprinkle blue edible glitter over the top of the cake for a sparkly ocean effect.

Decoration Arrange assorted fish-shaped gummies around the cake to complete the underwater theme.
