Homemade Spätzle

Preparing the Spätzle Dough In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, eggs, milk, salt, and ground nutmeg. Mix until a smooth and sticky batter forms. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.

Cooking the Spätzle Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then add 2 teaspoons of salt. Reduce the heat to medium-high. Place a Spätzle maker or a colander with large holes over the pot of boiling water. Fill the Spätzle maker or colander with some of the dough batter.

3.Using a spatula or the back of a spoon, press the dough through the holes into the boiling water. The dough will form small noodles as it falls into the water. Cook the Spätzle for about 2-3 minutes or until they float to the surface.

Finishing the Spätzle Using a slotted spoon, remove the cooked Spätzle from the pot and transfer to a colander to drain. Repeat the process with the remaining dough batter.

5.In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the cooked Spätzle and sauté for 2-3 minutes, or until lightly golden.

6.Sprinkle the grated Emmental cheese over the sautéed Spätzle and stir until the cheese melts and coats the noodles.

7.Serve the homemade Spätzle hot as a side dish or as a main course. Enjoy!
