Latin American Empanadas

For the Filling 1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add the onion, garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until the onions are soft.

For the Dough 1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Add the cold butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. 2. Gradually add the cold water and mix until the dough comes together. Knead the dough gently until smooth. 3. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them out into circles.

To Assemble the Empanadas 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture on one half of each dough circle. Top with olives, eggs, and raisins if using. 3. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Use a fork to crimp the edges and seal the empanadas. 4. Place the empanadas on the prepared baking sheet and brush with the beaten egg. 5. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Serving 1. Serve the empanadas hot with salsa, guacamole, and sour cream on the side.
