Classic Meatball Spaghetti

For Meatballs

1.In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1-inch in diameter.

For Tomato Sauce

1.In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté until soft and translucent. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine. Let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cooking the Spaghetti

1.In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the spaghetti and reserve a cup of pasta water.

Assembling the Dish

1.Add the cooked meatballs to the tomato sauce and simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes. Toss the cooked spaghetti with the meatball tomato sauce until well coated. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of reserved pasta water. Serve the meatball spaghetti hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
