Classic Beef Lasagne

1In a large skillet, cook the ground beef (1 lb) over medium heat until browned. Add the chopped onion (1) and garlic (2 cloves), and cook until the onion (1) is translucent.

2Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste (2 tbsp), sugar (1 tsp), oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Add the red wine (½ cup) and beef broth (1 cup). Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3In a separate bowl, mix the ricotta cheese (2 cups), egg (1), and Parmesan cheese.

4Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

5To assemble the lasagne, spread a layer of the meat sauce in a baking dish. Place a layer of lasagne noodles (9) on top. Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese (2 cups) mixture, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, ending with a final layer of meat sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.

6Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

7Let the lasagne rest for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious classic beef lasagne!
