Classic Vanilla Cake

1Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

2In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

3Add the eggs (3 large) one at a time, beating well after each addition.

4Stir in the vanilla extract (1 teaspoon).

5In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder (2 teaspoons).

6Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk (1 cup).

7Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

8Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

9Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

10Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
