Kite in a Sky Cake

1.Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2.In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

3.Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

4.In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

5.Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.

6.Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

7.While the cakes are cooling, prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Divide the icing into four bowls and color each with a different food coloring (blue, yellow, red, green).

8.Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of icing on top, then place the second layer on top of that.

9.Use the colored icing to create a sky design on the top of the cake, using blue for the sky and other colors for kites and clouds. You can use a piping bag for more intricate designs.

10.If desired, sprinkle edible glitter on top for a sparkling effect and add a kite-shaped cake topper to finish the look.
