Savory Shepherd's Pie with Green Beans

1.Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2.In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the chopped onion. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

3.Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another minute until fragrant.

4.Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef or lamb to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

5.Once the meat is browned, sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir well to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

6.Pour in the beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and dried thyme. Stir well and bring the mixture to a simmer.

7.Add the green beans and frozen peas to the skillet. Stir to combine and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the green beans are tender and the sauce has thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

8.Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture to a baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

9.Spoon the leftover mashed potatoes over the top of the meat mixture, spreading them out to cover the filling completely.

10.Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.

11.Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.

12.Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
