Savory Tuna and Swiss Cheese Bake

1.Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

2.In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in 1/4 cup of flour and cook for about 1 minute until it forms a paste (roux).

3.Gradually add 2 cups of milk to the roux, whisking continuously until the mixture thickens and is smooth. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Stir in nutmeg, salt, and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.

4.In a large mixing bowl, combine the eggs and 1 cup of milk. Whisk until well combined.

5.Add the 1/2 cup of flour to the egg mixture and whisk until smooth. Then, fold in the flaked tuna, shredded Swiss cheese, and chopped onion until evenly distributed.

6.Pour the béchamel sauce into the egg and tuna mixture, stirring gently to combine all ingredients thoroughly.

7.Grease a 9-inch pie dish or baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Pour the mixture into the prepared dish, spreading it evenly.

8.Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

9.Allow the bake to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
