Sausage and Tomato Skillet Bake

1.In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sliced Italian sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.

2.Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for another 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

3.Stir in the undrained diced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

4.Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

5.Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

6.Once the mixture has simmered, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.

7.Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

8.Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
