Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

1.Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

2.In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined. Set aside.

3.In a large bowl, mix the melted butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Stir in the vanilla extract.

4.Add the egg and egg yolk to the butter and sugar mixture, beating until light and creamy, about 2 minutes.

5.Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cookies tender.

6.Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) evenly throughout the dough.

7.Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded spoonfuls of dough about 2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheets.

8.Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers still look soft.

9.Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
