Spicy Paprika Rice Bowl with Aromatic Oil

1Rinse the rice under cold running water (3 cups) until the water (3 cups) runs clear. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, 3 cups of water (3 cups), 1 teaspoon of salt (1 teaspoon), and 1 tablespoon of olive oil (1 tablespoon). Bring to a boil over high heat.

2Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer undisturbed for 15-18 minutes, or until all the water (3 cups) is absorbed.

3Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for 10 minutes to steam.

4While the rice steams, prepare the aromatic oil. In a small skillet, heat the 3 tablespoons of neutral cooking oil over medium-low heat.

5Once the oil is warm (not smoking), remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the sweet paprika (2 tablespoons), hot paprika, 'Mother-in-Law's Spice Blend' (or substitute), garlic powder (½ teaspoon), black pepper, and a pinch of salt (1 teaspoon).

6Whisk vigorously for about 30 seconds until the spices are fully incorporated into the oil, creating a vibrant, fragrant, and slightly thickened spice paste/oil.

7Fluff the cooked rice gently with a fork in its saucepan. Drizzle the prepared spicy paprika oil evenly over the hot rice.

8Gently fold the oil mixture into the rice until the grains are uniformly coated in the deep red, aromatic spice blend. Be careful not to mash the rice.

9Serve immediately in bowls. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and a squeeze of lemon juice for brightness, if desired.
