Classic Sweet Potato Casserole with Toasted Marshmallow Topping

1.Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or an equivalent 3-quart casserole dish.

2.In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, granulated sugar, milk, beaten eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

3.Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated and the mixture is smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary (add a pinch more salt or spice if desired).

4.Pour the sweet potato mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.

5.Bake the casserole uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the edges are set and the filling is heated through.

6.Remove the dish from the oven. Carefully and evenly distribute the miniature marshmallows over the entire surface of the hot sweet potato mixture.

7.Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, watching closely, until the marshmallows are puffed up and golden brown and lightly toasted. Alternatively, use the broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching constantly to prevent burning.

8.Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving warm.
