Non-Vegan Orange Cake

Preparation of the Cake Batter In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then, stir in the orange zest.

Cake Batter Contd. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined.

Baking the Cake Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a cake pan and pour the batter into it. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Preparation of the Orange Syrup In a small saucepan, heat the freshly squeezed orange juice and granulated sugar over low heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and set aside.

Syrup Soaking Once the cake is baked, prick the top with a fork and pour the warm orange syrup over it, allowing the cake to absorb the syrup as it cools.

Garnishing Once the cake has cooled, dust it with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh orange slices and additional orange zest, if desired.
