Chocolate Ketchup Cake

Preparation Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Cake Batter In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and granulated sugar.

Cake Batter Add the vegetable oil, eggs, milk, ketchup, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.

Cake Batter Pour in the boiling water and mix until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Cake Batter Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

Baking Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cooling Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting To make the frosting, cream together the softened butter and cocoa powder in a mixing bowl.

Frosting Gradually add the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Mix until smooth and creamy.

Assembly Once the cakes have cooled, spread a layer of frosting on top of one cake layer. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake.

Optional Toppings Optional: Garnish the cake with chocolate shavings, fresh berries, and mint leaves.
