Spicy Southern-Style Chicken Gravy

1.In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat until it is bubbly and slightly browned.

2.Whisk in the flour, stirring constantly for about 3-4 minutes until the mixture turns a golden brown color, creating a roux.

3.Gradually pour in the chicken broth while whisking continuously to prevent lumps from forming.

4.Add the hot sauce, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and crushed red pepper flakes to the skillet. Stir well to combine all the spices into the gravy.

5.Bring the mixture to a simmer, allowing it to thicken for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.

6.Once the gravy has reached your desired thickness, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

7.Serve hot over fried or roasted chicken, and garnish with chopped green onions.
