Classic Mulled Wine

Preparation 1. Slice the orange. 2. Gather the whole cloves, star anise, and cinnamon sticks.

Making the Mulled Wine 1. In a large pot, combine the red wine, sliced orange, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise. 2. Stir in the granulated sugar. 3. Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring occasionally, until it is hot but not boiling. 4. Remove from heat and stir in the brandy. 5. Strain the mulled wine to remove the spices and orange slices. 6. Serve hot in mugs or heatproof glasses.
