Decadent Chocolate Cake

Preparing the Cake Pans Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Preparing the Cake Batter In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.

Mixing the Cake Batter Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the flour mixture. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

Adding Boiling Water Stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but that's normal.

Pouring the Batter Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.

Baking the Cakes Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Cooling the Cakes Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

Preparing the Chocolate Ganache While the cakes are cooling, prepare the chocolate ganache. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it simmers.

Making the Chocolate Ganache Remove the saucepan from heat and add the chopped semisweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Stir until smooth and well combined.

Cooling the Ganache Let the ganache cool slightly before using. It will thicken as it cools.

Assembling the Cake Once the cakes have cooled completely, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of chocolate ganache on top.

Finishing the Cake Place the second cake layer on top and cover the entire cake with the remaining chocolate ganache.

Decorating the Cake Dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh berries, if desired.
