Classic Texas Sheet Cake with Chocolate Frosting

1.Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a large sheet cake pan (approximately 18x13 inches).

2.In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.

3.In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the water and cocoa powder, stirring until combined and bring to a boil. Remove from heat.

4.Pour the hot butter mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

5.In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add this mixture to the cake batter and mix until smooth and well incorporated.

6.Pour the batter into the prepared sheet cake pan and spread evenly.

7.Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

8.While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the cocoa powder and milk, bringing it to a gentle boil.

9.Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

10.Once the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, pour the warm frosting over the cake, spreading it evenly.
