Classic Spaghetti with Rich Tomato Basil Sauce

1.Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water.

2.In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

3.Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

4.Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Mix well to combine.

5.Add the sugar, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

6.If the sauce becomes too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.

7.Once the sauce is ready, add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.

8.Serve the spaghetti hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese.
