Classic Orange Simple Syrup

1.Combine the sugar, water, and orange zest strips in a small saucepan.

2.Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. Do not allow the mixture to boil vigorously; a gentle simmer is sufficient.

3.Once the sugar is dissolved (about 3-5 minutes), remove the saucepan from the heat.

4.Stir in the fresh orange juice.

5.Allow the syrup to steep for at least 30 minutes off the heat to fully infuse the orange flavor from the zest.

6.Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean, airtight container, discarding the zest strips.

7.Let the syrup cool completely to room temperature before sealing and refrigerating. The syrup will thicken slightly as it cools.

8.Store refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.
