Egg-in-a-Hole Toast

1.Use a round cookie cutter or a small glass (about 2.5 inches in diameter) to cut a hole in the center of each bread slice. Save the cut-out bread pieces for toasting alongside.

2.Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the butter. Allow it to melt and coat the pan evenly.

3.Place the bread slices in the skillet and toast for about 1 minute until the bottom is golden brown.

4.Carefully crack one egg into the hole of each bread slice, making sure the yolk stays intact.

5.Season the eggs with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

6.Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the egg whites are set but the yolks remain runny. If desired, cover the skillet with a lid to help the eggs cook evenly.

7.Using a spatula, gently flip the bread with the egg and cook for an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute for a slightly firmer yolk, or skip flipping for runnier yolks.

8.Toast the cut-out bread pieces in the skillet alongside until golden and crisp.

9.Remove the egg-in-a-hole toasts and the toasted bread pieces from the skillet and serve immediately.
