Classic Fudge Brownies

1.Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch (20x20cm) baking pan with nonstick spray or butter and line with parchment paper for easy removal.

2.In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth and glossy.

3.Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking vigorously until the mixture is thick and pale, about 1 minute.

4.Sift in the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula until just combined; do not overmix.

5.If using, fold in the chocolate chips for extra fudginess.

6.Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly to the edges. Tap the pan lightly on the counter to remove air bubbles.

7.Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

8.Let the brownies cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before lifting out and slicing into 9 squares. Serve warm or at room temperature.
