Classic Spaghetti Bolognese

1.In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil.

2.Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, diced carrot, and celery. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.

3.Increase the heat to high and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it's browned and no longer pink.

4.Pour in the red wine and let it simmer until reduced by half, about 3 minutes.

5.Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.

6.Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. For deeper flavor, simmer for up to 2 hours.

7.While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.

8.Drain the spaghetti and return it to the pot.

9.Once the Bolognese sauce has finished simmering, adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.

10.Serve the spaghetti topped with the Bolognese sauce, a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese, and garnished with fresh basil leaves.
