Crispy Southern Fried Chicken Coating

1.In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, dried thyme, dried oregano, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until well mixed.

2.In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg until fully combined.

3.Dip each piece of chicken into the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.

4.Next, dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring it is fully coated. Press the flour onto the chicken to create a thick coating.

5.Place the coated chicken on a wire rack and let it rest for about 15 minutes. This helps the coating adhere better during frying.

6.Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).

7.Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches if necessary.

8.Cook the chicken for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).

9.Remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
