Classic Marinara Sauce with Fresh Basil

1.Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

2.Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

3.Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

4.Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine with the onion and garlic mixture.

5.Add the sugar, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes, stirring well to incorporate all the ingredients.

6.Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it cook uncovered for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

7.Once the sauce has thickened slightly, stir in the chopped fresh basil and season with salt and pepper to taste.

8.Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.
