Kit Kat Coffee Chocolate Trifle

1.Brew 1 cup of strong coffee and let it cool to room temperature.

2.In a medium bowl, combine the cooled coffee and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved. Set aside.

3.In a separate bowl, melt 8 ounces of chopped milk chocolate in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth. Allow to cool slightly.

4.In a large mixing bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.

5.Gently fold the melted chocolate into the whipped cream until fully combined, creating a smooth chocolate mousse.

6.To assemble the trifle, dip pieces of chocolate sponge cake or ladyfingers into the coffee mixture briefly, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy. Layer the soaked cake at the bottom of a trifle dish or individual serving glasses.

7.Spread a layer of the chocolate mousse over the soaked cake, then sprinkle a layer of crushed Kit Kat bars on top. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of mousse and a generous sprinkle of crushed Kit Kat bars on top for garnish.

8.Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set before serving.
