Classic Ham and Swiss Grilled Cheese

1.Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.

2.Spread 1 tablespoon of softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.

3.If using, spread Dijon mustard on the unbuttered side of two bread slices.

4.Place two bread slices, buttered side down, on a clean cutting board or plate.

5.Layer 2 slices of Swiss cheese evenly on each bread slice on the unbuttered side.

6.Top the cheese with 2 ounces of thinly sliced ham per sandwich.

7.Add a light sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper over the ham.

8.Place the remaining bread slices on top of each sandwich, buttered side up, pressing down gently to secure.

9.Carefully transfer the sandwiches to the preheated skillet.

10.Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottom bread is golden brown and crispy.

11.Using a spatula, carefully flip each sandwich and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes until the second side is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

12.Remove sandwiches from the skillet and let them rest for 1 minute before slicing in half diagonally.

13.Serve immediately while warm and enjoy your classic ham and Swiss grilled cheese sandwich.
