Easter Bread Rolls (Papas de Pascua)

1In a bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk (1 cup) and let it rest for 5 minutes until foamy.

2In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar (½ cup), melted butter (½ cup), eggs (2), vanilla extract (½ tsp), nutmeg, and cinnamon.

3Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

4Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

5Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

6Punch down the dough and knead in the raisins (¼ cup) and candied orange peel until evenly distributed.

7Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each into a ball. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

8Cover the rolls with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

9Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

10Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
