Classic Bread Pudding

1Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.

2In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread (6 cups), raisins (¼ cup), and chopped nuts (¼ cup) (if using).

3In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk (2 cups), sugar (¾ cup), eggs (3), vanilla extract (1 teaspoon), cinnamon (½ teaspoon), and nutmeg (¼ teaspoon).

4Pour the milk (2 cups) mixture over the bread mixture and gently stir to combine, ensuring all bread cubes are coated.

5Let the mixture sit for about 15-20 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.

6Transfer the mixture to the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.

7Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the pudding is set and the top is golden brown.

8Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

9Serve warm with a sprinkle of powdered sugar (¾ cup) or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
