Savory Mushroom Duplex

1Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

2Clean the mushrooms (1 lb) and slice them.

3In a large skillet, melt the butter (¼ cup) over medium heat.

4Add the diced onion (1) and minced garlic (2 cloves) to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

5Add the sliced mushrooms (1 lb) to the skillet and cook until they release their liquid and start to brown, about 10 minutes.

6Sprinkle the flour over the mushroom mixture and stir to combine.

7Slowly pour in the chicken broth (1 cup) while stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.

8Stir in the heavy cream (½ cup) and grated Parmesan cheese (½ cup) until well combined.

9Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the chopped parsley (¼ cup).

10Place 4 slices of bread in a baking dish.

11Spoon half of the mushroom mixture over the bread slices.

12Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese (1 cup) over the mushroom mixture.

13Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread.

14Spoon the remaining mushroom mixture over the bread slices.

15Sprinkle the rest of the shredded mozzarella cheese (1 cup) over the top.

16Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.

17Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

18Serve the savory mushroom duplex hot and enjoy!
