Decadent Chocolate Castellan Cake

1Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

2In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, butter (1 cup), eggs (4), milk (1 cup), vanilla extract (1 teaspoon), baking powder (1 teaspoon), baking soda (½ teaspoon), and salt (½ teaspoon). Mix until well combined.

3Gradually stir in the hot water (1 cup) until the batter is smooth.

4Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

5Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

6In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream (1 cup) until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips until melted and smooth.

7Let the chocolate ganache cool slightly, then pour it over the cooled cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

8Refrigerate the cake for 1 hour to set the ganache.

9Dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar (¼ cup) and garnish with fresh berries before serving.
