Classic Sugar Cake

1Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a cake pan with butter and flour.

2In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar (1 cup) until light and fluffy.

3Add the eggs (4) one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

4Stir in the vanilla extract (1 teaspoon).

5In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour (2 cups) and baking powder (1 tablespoon).

6Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk (1 cup), and mix until well combined.

7Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

8Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

9Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
