Fried Orbs of Delight

1.In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well to combine all the dry ingredients.

2.In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg until well blended.

3.Add the buttermilk mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

4.Fold in the shredded cheese, mashed potatoes, and chopped green onions until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

5.Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles and rises to the surface, it's ready.

6.Using a spoon or small ice cream scoop, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the orbs for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.

7.Once cooked, remove the fried orbs from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

8.Serve the Fried Orbs hot, with your favorite dipping sauce or enjoy them plain.
