Decadent Creamy Hot Chocolate

1In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk (2 cups) and heavy cream (½ cup) over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the mixture is warm but not boiling.

2In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, granulated sugar (½ cup), and salt (¼ teaspoon) until well combined.

3Gradually add the cocoa mixture to the warm milk and cream, whisking continuously until smooth and fully incorporated.

4Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips (½ cup) and continue to whisk until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is creamy and hot.

5Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract (1 teaspoon).

6Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings for garnish.
