American Apple Pie

1.Sift the flour into a bowl, leaving about 1 tbsp of the total amount for the filling. Place 180 g of softened butter in a bowl with flour and chop with a knife until crumbly crumbs come out. Thanks to this, the dough turns out tender. If you knead it with your hands, the butter will melt, and the finished dough will be denser.

2.Add 30 ml of water, a pinch of salt and egg yolk, 3 tbsp. of sugar to the butter crumbs. Knead a soft but elastic dough. At first, you can do this with a spatula, then knead it well with your hands and form an elastic ball.

3.Put the finished dough in the refrigerator for at least an hour. When the butter hardens and the dough becomes harder, divide it into two parts and roll it out into a layer about 5 mm thick. Place one part of the dough on the bottom of a fireproof form. Place it well along the edges and prick it with a fork so that it bakes evenly. Bake the pie base for 10 minutes at 180°C.

4.Wash the apples, peel them and cut them into slices about 3-4 mm thick. Add cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, sugar, 1 tbsp. flour, lemon juice and softened butter to the bowl with the apples. Mix everything well.

5.Place the filling on the baked base and cover the pie with a second layer of dough, pinch the edges and cut off the excess. You can make decorations from the scraps and decorate the apple pie. Make a small hole in the center so that excess moisture can escape during baking. Grease the top of the pie with egg white.

6.Bake the American apple pie for 50-60 minutes at 180°C. The cooking time depends on the size of the pan. The finished apple pie can be served with vanilla ice cream.
