Spicy Tomato and Onion Pasta

1.Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water.

2.In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they become translucent and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.

3.Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the skillet, stirring for about 1 minute until fragrant.

4.Stir in the diced tomatoes and cook for another 5-7 minutes, allowing the tomatoes to break down and create a sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

5.Reduce the heat to low and pour in the heavy cream, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

6.Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat the pasta in the creamy tomato and onion sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.

7.Remove from heat and garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
