1Heat the olive oil (2 tablespoons) in a large saucepan over medium heat.

2Add the minced garlic (4 cloves) and red pepper flakes (1 teaspoon) to the pan, sautéing for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

3Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine with the garlic (4 cloves) and pepper flakes.

4Add the sugar (1 teaspoon), dried oregano (1 teaspoon), salt (1 teaspoon), and black pepper (½ teaspoon). Stir well to incorporate all the ingredients.

5Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook uncovered for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

6Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more salt (1 teaspoon) or red pepper flakes (1 teaspoon) for extra heat if desired.

7Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before using it on your pizza.

8If desired, garnish with fresh basil (1 tablespoon) before serving.
