Classic Basil Gimlet

1.In a cocktail shaker, gently muddle the 6 fresh basil leaves to release their aroma and oils, being careful not to tear them too much.

2.Add 2 oz of gin, 1 oz of freshly squeezed lime juice, and 3/4 oz of simple syrup into the shaker.

3.Fill the shaker with ice cubes until about two-thirds full.

4.Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker feels cold.

5.Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled coupe or martini glass to remove basil bits and ice shards.

6.Garnish with a fresh basil sprig or a lime wheel on the rim of the glass.

7.Serve immediately and enjoy the refreshing herbal zest of the basil gimlet.
