Classic Campfire Tacos

1In a medium bowl, combine the ground hamburger with taco seasoning (2 tablespoons), salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until the seasoning is evenly distributed.

2Add the refried beans (1 cup) to the seasoned ground beef and mix gently to combine without breaking up the beans too much.

3Tear off a large sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil, about 18 inches long. Lightly oil the foil to prevent sticking.

4Place the beef and bean mixture in the center of the foil and shape it into a flat, even layer about 1 inch thick. Fold the foil over and seal tightly, creating a secure packet.

5Prepare your campfire or grill to medium heat with hot coals or steady flames suitable for indirect cooking.

6Place the foil packet on the campfire grate or on hot coals, away from direct flames, and cook for 20-25 minutes. Flip the packet halfway through cooking to ensure even heat distribution.

7Carefully remove the foil packet from the fire using tongs or heat-resistant gloves and let it rest for 5 minutes before opening to avoid steam burns.

8Open the foil packet and use a fork to break up the cooked beef and bean mixture, mixing it well to create a hearty filling.

9Warm the tortillas or taco shells over the fire or on a portable grill for 1-2 minutes until pliable and slightly toasted.

10To assemble, spoon the beef and bean filling into each tortilla or taco shell. Top with shredded cheddar cheese (1 cup), shredded lettuce (1 cup), sliced black olives (½ cup), a drizzle of taco sauce (½ cup), and a dollop of sour cream (½ cup).

11Serve immediately while warm, accompanied by extra taco sauce (½ cup) and sour cream (½ cup) if desired.
