Classic Crispy Air Fryer Fries

1.Cut the peeled potatoes into uniform matchsticks, approximately 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick, to ensure even cooking.

2.Place the potato sticks in a large bowl and cover with ice-cold water. Let them soak for 30 minutes; this crucial step removes excess surface starch, which is the secret to achieving a fluffy interior and a crispy exterior.

3.Drain the potatoes and spread them onto a clean kitchen towel. Pat them thoroughly until they are bone-dry—any residual moisture will cause the fries to steam rather than crisp.

4.In a dry bowl, toss the potatoes with the avocado oil, sea salt, garlic powder, and black pepper until every fry is thinly and evenly coated.

5.Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3 minutes.

6.Place the potatoes in the air fryer basket. Cook at 380°F (193°C) for 12 minutes, removing the basket to shake vigorously every 4 minutes to redistribute the fries for even browning.
