Herring Under a Fur Coat

Preparation of Ingredients Boil the potatoes, beets, and carrots until tender. Hard-boil the eggs. Peel and grate the boiled potatoes, beets, carrots, and eggs.

Assembly of the Salad Place a layer of grated potatoes on the bottom of a serving dish. Top with a layer of grated herring, followed by grated beets, carrots, and eggs. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, with the final layer being grated eggs. Cover the entire salad with a thick coating of mayonnaise.

Garnish Sprinkle freshly chopped dill over the top of the salad. Decorate with red caviar and lemon slices.
