Chop 1 medium-sized onion, 2 stalks of celery, and 1 green pepper finely.
Brown the chopped vegetables well in a little butter.
Add 3/4 lb. hamburger to the browned vegetables and brown in a frying pan.
Add 1/2 teaspoon each of nutmeg, chili powder, allspice, ground cloves, curry powder, and paprika.
Brown for 15 minutes.
Add 1 small can of tomato paste, salt, and pepper, and cook for 15 minutes.
Transfer to a 3 or 4 quart pot, add 2 quarts of water.
Bring to a boil and simmer for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
